HOW CONNECTIVE DELIVERS INFORMATION TO SUPPORT PROVIDERS

In support of a provider treating a patient, a provider submits patient demographics to connective Health. Following federal and state guidelines, Connective Health utilizes multiple sources to gather the data. The federal Health Information and Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 is an important law in governing the exchange of health information. A summary of the law can be found here:

As stated in the HIPAA Privacy Summary:

“A major goal of the Privacy Rule is to assure that individuals’ health information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the public’s health and well being. The Rule strikes a balance that permits important uses of information, while protecting the privacy of people who seek care and healing. Given that the health care marketplace is diverse, the Rule is designed to be flexible and comprehensive to cover the variety of uses and disclosures that need to be addressed. “

In support of the provider delivering care to a patient, Connective Health works with industry organizations, such as Carequality, CommonWell and eHealth Exchange to establish the reciprocal rights for exchanging data. The industry organizations access Electronic Health Records, health plans and pharmacies

Carequality has brought together the entire healthcare industry to overcome this challenge by providing a national-level, consensus-built, common interoperability framework to enable exchange between and among health data sharing networks. Carequality brings together a diverse group of representatives, including electronic health record (EHR) vendors, record locator service (RLS) providers and other types of existing networks from the private sector and government, to determine technical and policy agreements to enable data to flow between and among networks, platforms, and geographies, much like the telecommunications industry did for linking cell phone networks.
Thousands of health care practitioners, from single-physician offices to multi-hospital systems, are sharing patient data seamlessly across disparate health systems, different venues of care, various health IT systems and geographies – both next door and across the nation.
eHealth Exchange provides healthcare organizations a single API (connection) and trust framework to exchange patients’ medical data nationwide.
